GET REGISTERED :
As we move into the Fall and Winter, it is very clear that the Friday night FunHolios will be sold
out more often than not. So what does that mean? If you wait to sign up, you may miss out, so
get registered sooner rather than later.
You should sign up for a few key dates so you do not miss out.

Halloween Switch – BAND – KING FOR A DAY – Nov 01

BACKYARD CUP – Ryder Cup team event – so much fun.  Talk to anyone that has
played this event, it is by far the most fun you can have playing cornhole – Nov 02

FOOD BANK FUNDRAISER – We are moving the Nov 15 Switch to Saturday, Nov 16 th,
and donating all the funds to the FOOD BANK. It is very important to sell out this event
because, as a not-for-profit organization, we need to remember the people who are less fortunate,
and during the Xmas season, things are tough for a lot of people.

COUNTRY THEME SWITCH – BAND – DETOUR – Nov 29

We are just over a month into the Fall/Winter season, and the Backyard is hopping.  The SCL
has made a few changes this season; the first is on Tuesday, Doubles Night. We have moved to playing a Blind Draw format.  The move allows people to come as a single to play and allows
them to play with different players in the league.  The other thing we have added is the Bounty Hunter.  The idea is every league night; everyone pays $5.  We pick a player (singles) or a team
(doubles), and they become the wanted player or team.  Everyone else becomes the BountyHunters.  The idea is whoever knocks out the Bounty player/team, wins the money.  If the
Bounty wins the night, they win the money.

Another change is driven by Cornhole Canada and the vote that was taken across Canada.  The vote was to reduce the number of Regionals each league can hold from one a month to six a year.  So, in the
2024-25 season, we will only be able to hold six Regionals.  The good news is, Saskatoon and Weyburn can also host six as well.

The SCL hosted its first Regional on Sept 29, 2024.  The attendance was not what we anticipated, but the weather was still pretty nice, so hopefully, as the weather gets colder, we will see the Regional
attendance increase.  The next Regional in the Backyard is set for November 24, 2024.  The first Regional winners were:

Tier 4 Pigeon Singles:
1. Lucas
2. Stewie
3. Joe P
The top PPRs were Lucas at 7.28, Stewie at 6.84 and Marla at 6.7 PPR

Tier 4 Doubles:
1. Just Ducky – Stewie and Joe P
2. Luau Lobber’s – Oopsidacey and Fred X
3. Soo line – Cayden and Terry
The top PPRs were FredX at 7.2, Oopsidacey at 6.78 and Joe P at 6.65 PPR.

Tier 3 Hawk Singles:
1. Kassigan
2. Newson
3. Patches
The top PPRs were Newson at 8.79, Kass at 8.62 and Patches at 8.25 PPR

Tier 3 Doubles:
1. Humble B’s – Presley and Glen
2. My Mom thinks I am cool – Patches and Bonnie P
3. Dream Catchers – Newson and Caesar
The top PPRs were Caesar at 8.95, Presley at 8.53, and Glen at 8.48 PPR

As you can see, we had a good showing from out-of-towners, which is fantastic, and the PPR is
unbelievable for this early in the year. I am looking forward to seeing where they end up come
provincials in July and Nationals in August.  Nationals next year have not been determined yet. The
leagues will make that decision in Alberta with the Alberta Cornhole Association.
Power Rankings are tricky this early in the year, and I have not had as much time to write about every
weeks winners, but I have looked to see who is firing early in the season.  It has been a fun start to the
season because we have seen the Penguins moving to the Pigeon division and some jumped right up to the Hawk division.  We have also seen a few Pigeons move to fly with the Hawks.  Everyone is settling in
nicely, and each tier is very competitive.

Tier 4 POWER Ranking:
With the new and old Pigeons in this tier, it will be interesting to see who rises to the top and continues
to move their game forward. It will also be interesting to see how many rise to the top and then have to
move to fly with the HAWKS. Marcus is a key example of someone who, before I have had the chance to
put out my Power Ranking, has decided the best way to get better is to move to tier 3.

  • FIRST: THE KID—Hot off the National title in BC, Lucas has been firing darts this year already. He has
managed a couple of great wins early in the season, and his PPR has been fantastic. I put him in the first
spot because I think this year will be a good one for Lucas and that he will be the player to beat on most
    nights.
  • SECOND: MARLA—As much as she fights the requirement to move up, she seems to compete in every
event she plays in. I honestly do not believe she is in the right tier, but her PPR will dictate that. Marla
plays three times a week, and it makes her very tough to beat most nights.
  • THIRD: OOPSIDACEY – Mike has had a great start to the year and has put up some great numbers.  Mike
is the top Saskatchewan player in tier 4 in the Cornhole Canada standings.  The third spot is a good spot
to put Mike because it will be up to him to move up or down.
  • FOURTH: – JOE P – Another player new to Tier 4 but is making waves.  Joe’s bag is getting flatter and
flatter, which, as he moves forward, will be the key to him hitting the number one spot in this tier.  Also,
you cannot find a better guy or ambassador of the game.
  • FIFTH: For the fifth spot this year, I will give you three names that I feel are on the edge of breaking into
    the top four.
LYNETTE:  She has been throwing very well and has already chalked up a few wins this year.
RINGO: He has also earned a few wins this year, but I need to see more from Regan to properly rank him
    in the top five.
SARAH—I played mixed at Nationals with Sarah, and I will tell you she is the real deal. I know she wishes
she could throw more often, but if she does, look out because she will move up fast.

Tier 3 POWER Ranking:
This tier is challenging again because some players took some time off after the National
Championships. I have decided to rank only players who have played this year.  I know the sky is the
limit when all the Hawks are out, but until then this is my ranking.

  • FIRST: NEWSON – It is very clear Kevin is not messing around this year.  Kevin has come out firing and is
taking his game to another level.  When Kevin is on there are not many that can stick with him.  I know
there are a few that are up to the challenge, but at this point in the season, this choice is pretty easy.
  • SECOND: PATCHES – Andrew, who took down my number one pick this week, and has been showing his
game is on point 9 months out from Nationals, lol.  I really am excited for Andrews' game and think he is
one that will give players fits every night we throw.
  • THIRD: KASSIGAN—Kass has been winning every event in Saskatoon, and then when he decided to drive
to Regina to play in the first Regional, he won that too. I don’t get to see him throw enough, and I put
him in the third spot simply because he scares me less than Kevin and Patches.
  • FOURTH: KRENTZY—HE IS BACK, and we are all happy he is. I know he never really went anywhere, but
Parker has been out more regularly, and it is great to see. Parkers level of play forces everyone to play
better. He has his game firing and I look forward to seeing him move up this ranking.
  • FIFTH: PRESLEY:  She is always one of the top PPRs and has already won a Regional this year. Deciding where
she should be in the rankings is tough, but she is always a force when she comes out.
  • GLEN– you can tell Glen has been working on his bag, which has been showing in his game.  I predict
2024-25 will be a good year for Glen.
  • RICK—I have been watching, and Rick is throwing really well early in the year. When Rick shows up, the
night is going to be better because he is there, and the competition will be at a higher level.
My name is Kevin Bittman, and I am on the board of the SCA and a member of the Backyard Pigeon Coop.  I have been playing cornhole for a couple of years, and I would say I am not great, but I try to get better every week.  Cornhole, for me, is a fantastic community of people that, no matter your skill level, you can come out and have fun at the Backyard at the SCA. The blog is my opinion and how I see things in Regina’s cornhole scene. It is meant to be a way to keep people engaged in what is going on at the Backyard and the SCA.  My hope is we can continue growing the game in Regina and Saskatchewan. The Backyard at the SCA is located at 2363 2 nd Avenue in Regina.  The venue has eight regulation cornhole lanes and a bar and kitchen. Each week, the Backyard hosts events for all skill levels, and I will attempt to highlight some of these events and give my perspective on the club and the players in Saskatchewan.
