We are back for another season of cornhole. The 2023-24 season ended in British Columbia as Team Sask performed incredibly. 32 players donned the Team Sask jersey, as we had players compete in all three tiers. After 18 events and five days of cornhole were complete, Team SASK had 17 players finish on the podium, including seven events where Team Sask took home the National title.
National titles:
Tier 4 Woman’s singles – Bonnie P
Tier 3 Open Singles – Jonathan H
Elite 16 Women – Presley
Quad Tier 4 – Courtney, Bonnie P, Sarah,and Patches
Quad Tier 3 – Bitsy, Crystal, Kim and Newson
Tier 4 Mixed Doubles – Bonnie P and Stich
Tier 3 Doubles – Jonathan and Damara
British Columbia also saw a couple of players capture their first pieces of wood. It happened in the Team Quad event. Courtney and I managed to get our first win and wooden trophy in our time playing Cornhole. Congrats Courtney. I am incredibly proud of all our players; they represented Saskatchewan and the club well and I hope we can get 50 players next year in Alberta. Enough about the past let us talk about the 2024-25 season. We are less than a week away from the start of the next season. This year will be a bit different than last. The year will start the same as last year, regarding what tier you start in. Using the 2023-24 seasonal PPR, you will play in that tier. What is PPR? PPR stands for Points Per Round. So when we play and score with ScoreMagic, Scoreholio keeps track of how many points you average per round.
We will start everyone off with last year’s seasonal PPR. This PPR will be used until the day before the second Regional, scheduled for Nov 24, 2024. We will then switch to the 2024-25 seasonal PPR and use that stat for the rest of the season. So what does that mean? This means you can register for the first season of league play (Sept to Dec) and the first Regional with last year’s PPR. For the second Regional and second league season, we will be using your 2024-25 Seasonal PPR.
At the start of every league season, you can register and play in the tier your PPR puts you in. However, there may be a scenario where you are playing tier 4 in league play but are required to play tier 3 in a Regional because your PPR has hit the threshold. This is good because it allows our tiers to grow as new people join the bottom. Last year was difficult because we saw some very high PPRs in both tiers 4 and 5, which discouraged some people at the bottom from joining. Our strength in Saskatchewan is our players, and the only way we get good, solid numbers in tiers 3 and 4 is if we have new people coming out and learning the game in tier 5. Tier 5 should be an entry level where people get to know the game and the throwing technique, and then as
they improve, they move up to tier 4. We want to ensure we do not create an atmosphere where our new people come out to try the game and are not met with players throwing regular four-baggers.
I hope everyone enjoys the season and I look forward to seeing everyone out on one of theleague nights. Just a reminder:
Monday – Ladies Night
Tuesday – Tier 3 and 4, Alternating weeks of Singles and Doubles
Wednesday – Learn to Throw Beginners Night
Friday – FUNHOLIO – Switcholio format.
Huge thank you to the people who run each of these nights. This year, we have Kim helping Crystal and Damara on Monday night. A big team effort of Newson, Caesar, Ritz and myself on Tuesday night. Wednesday night is Crystal, Newson and myself. Keep your eyes peeled for weekly updates and rankings.
